How this system works?
MY-sensei.com is a free teacher and student matching service. Teachers fill out a registration form with their personal and professional details and MY-sensei.com makes this information public on the internet. Prospective students use the MY-sensei.com site to look for teachers who meet their specific requirements. If a student finds a teacher they want to have a trial lesson with, the student pays a minimal fee to MY-sensei.com and is given the teacher's contact information. Then the student contacts the teacher by e-mail or phone.
How much do I  pay for this service?
Nothing! It's totally free for teachers. Only students pay a minimal fee for this service to get teachers' contact information.
Who pays me?
Students pay teachers directly by cash after each lesson has finished. Students know how much teachers charge because the hourly lesson rate is displayed in their profiles. Teachers should never ask students to pay for lessons in advance or offer special discounts for doing so.
Where do I teach?
You can choose where you want to teach. It could be at your home, the student's home, at a cafe or so on.
How do students contact me?
Students contact teachers by e-mail or phone. Most students contact teachers by e-mail for the first time. A cell phone e-mail address would be convinient if you can not access the internet easily.
If I don't live in Japan, can I register?
No. This service is only for people currently living in Japan. If you intentd to come to Japan, please register with MY-sensei.com after you have arrived.
I don't speak any Japanese. Can I register?
Of course! Most students want to improve their conversation skills, so talk to them in your language.
Can I get a visa from MY-sensei.com?
No. MY-sensei.com offers a venue to make your information public and gives you the opportunity to find students looking for private lessons in Japan.
Do any students want to have lessons early in the morning? (e.g. 6 a.m.)
Yes. Some business people or students want to have lessons before they start work or school.
What is MY-page?
Once you have registered with MY-sensei.com you will automatically become a member. You will receive a password which will enable you to sign in to MY-page. This is where you can update or modify your profile.
How do I update my profile?
You need to sign in to MY-page with your ID (your registered e-mail address) and password. Then you can update your profile directly on the site.
I've lost my password. What should I do?
Send us your registered e-mail address from here and we will send you your password.
My email address or telephone number has changed. What should I do?
You can update your contact information in MY-page.
Does MY-sensei.com check teachers' profiles?
Yes. We check all teachers' profiles regularly and if we discover strange or incorrect information, we will withdraw the profile from the students' site and ask the teacher to make the necessary changes.
I can not see my profile on the Students' Site. Why?
If you have successfully completed registration please make sure you sign in to MY-page. The first "sign in" will activate your profile. This is done to prevent students from recieving wrong or mistyped e-mail addresses. If you have previously signed into MY-page, please make sure your status is in normal mode.
Do I need to upload my picture?
You do not have to but at least 80% of all the teachers chosen by students have uploaded pictures of themselves to their profile. So, for this reason, we strongly recommend that you upload a picture of yourself after you have activated your account with us. The most popular pictures seem to be of teachers smiling and whose faces can be clearly seen. Pictures of scenery and cartoon characters are almost never chosen.
I have registered with MY-sensei.com but I haven't recieved an e-mail with a password yet. Why? How can I activate my profile?
If you are using a free e-mail account, it might automatically place all e-mails from unknown sources in the "junk mail" folder. And if you do not check that folder regularly, all the e-mails it contains are put in the "trash can". Or e-mail might have been one of those. There may also have been a network traffic problem. If this is the case, then you can get your password by clicking on the link below. Then just enter your email address.

If you have tried this and still can not get your password, please contact us using the e-mail address you registered with on our site. We will be able to send your password directly.
Why can't I log in to my profile?
There are usually 3 main reasons why teachers can not log in to their profiles.
  1. An invalid e-mail address or password has been entered or has been typed with unnecessary spaces so please check those details carefully.
  2. Logging in from the Students' Site instead of the Teacher's Site. Profiles can only be accessed from the Teacher's Site.
  3. The browser being used hinders access. Our site has only been tested using Internet Explorer so we recommend teachers use that if they are having problems logging in to their profile.
